The Boston Business Journal (BBJ) has named VERC Enterprises, a leading convenience store and Mobil/Gulf gasoline operator with locations throughout eastern MA and NH, to its "Largest Family-Owned Businesses in Massachusetts" list. VERC is the 10th largest business on the list. It joined an elite list of Mass. businesses, including Fidelity Investments, the Kraft Group and New Balance.
VERC, which operates 26 c-stores in two states, listed its revenues as $147 million for the survey period, plus 226 Mass. employees and a total of 240 throughout the company.
"We are pleased to once again be included in the Boston Business Journal's roundup of the region's largest family-owned businesses, and we congratulate the other businesses who also qualified for this list," said Leo Vercollone, CEO of VERC.
Also, Cardinal Cushing Centers Inc.'s South Shore Industries division, Cushing's work development program for adults, has honored VERC as a Leader in Employment Opportunities.
VERC Enterprises vice president Paul Vercollone, director of operations and human resources Barry Ahern and category manager Ed Oliveira attended the recent annual luncheon when VERC and other companies who find the value in a diverse workforce were honored for their commitment to employing individuals with intellectual, developmental and physical challenges.
"It is an honor to be recognized by the Cardinal Cushing Centers for our dedication to hiring individuals who are challenged," said Paul Vercollone. "That commitment has proven to be a great experience for our company and it is one we vow to continue."
