Viking Construction named Top 2020 Family-Owned Business

September 18, 2020 - Connecticut

Bridgeport, CT Viking Construction was named as one of the top family-owned businesses in Connecticut by The Hartford Business Journal. This is the first time Viking was recognized with this honor, which recognizes how family values play a role in the success and growth of businesses throughout the state, and how those values align with the company’s culture and community involvement. Viking joined other honorees at a July 29th virtual awards ceremony hosted by the Hartford Business Journal.

“We truly view our company as an extension of our family,” Viking president, Anthony Gaglio, Sr., said. “In this way, Viking has been able to build a strong culture with lasting relationships and connections which has led to repeat business, extreme employee loyalty with many original employees still on staff, and steady growth. This award reflects the commitment of everyone at Viking and we are honored to receive it.”

Viking was founded as an offshoot of another related family business, Frank Mercede & Sons construction company, created in 1927. When Anthony Gaglio, Sr., started Viking Construction in 1991, he wanted to preserve his family’s appreciation for quality and old-world craftsmanship that continues today. The company’s work is often recognized by industry associations including the Connecticut Association of Builders and Contractors group and the Connecticut Building Congress. Additionally, the company was named a 2020 “Best Places to Work in Connecticut.”

In addition to being involved in many state and national construction industry associations, Viking Construction works closely with Bridgeport’s Small and Minority Business Enterprise and Connecticut’s Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities. Anthony Gaglio, Jr., serves on the board of directors for Inspirica, Inc., a non-profit that works to solve homelessness, and on the board of incorporators for the Fairfield County Bank. The company and its employees support countless local nonprofits including sports teams and food banks. The company also created the annual Viking Construction Education Scholarship program in 2012 to encourage high school seniors or college students who have declared a construction-related major.

Founded in 1991, Viking Construction, Inc., (www.vikingconstruction.net) is a family-owned company of craftsmen in all areas of construction. The company strongly believes in personal involvement, quality control, and sound financial management. Its award-winning portfolio includes historic renovations, wastewater treatment facilities, pharmaceutical plants, churches, schools, assisted living facilities, office buildings, industrial manufacturing plants and large-scale affordable housing projects throughout Connecticut and New York.
