Volunteers recognized at Annual CAI New England Dinner

Boston, MA At the 2016 annual chapter dinner, dozens of award winners and industry leaders were applauded for their selfless contributions and years of dedicated service to the institute and the community association industry. Immediate past president, Janet Aronson and chapter president, Wes Blair presented awards in the following categories:

• Association Excellence in Service Award: Special Events: Millennium Place South Residential Association, Boston - Singled out for their focus on resident engagement and hosting special events that have included fashion shows and a Boston Cup test drive as well as holiday gatherings like Easter egg hunts and milk with Santa socials.

Association Excellence in Service Award: Community Spirit: Place Lane Condominium, Woburn - Recognized for demonstrating community pride and showcasing their resourcefulness in bringing unit owners together by transforming the association’s lobby into a welcome gathering spot for all residents.

• Creative Solutions: Michael Tucker & Diane Bernath, First Realty Management, Boston - For their commitment and professionalism supervising a massive flood cleanup, overseeing the repairs and renovations, and their focus to get displaced owners back into their homes as quickly as possible.

• Association Volunteer of the Year: Judy Norton, Crossroads on the Charles, Watertown - An 11-year resident and board chair when a flood severely damaged the condominium, she was recognized for her sacrifice of personal time to help the process and her patience and commitment in working with management, board members and owners.

• CAI Business Partner of the Year: Richard W. Endlar Insurance Agency - Nominated for navigating a complicated claims process as well as persistence, follow thru and successful negotiations for a community association client.

Community Association Manager of the Year: Barbara Kansky, CMCA, AMS, PCAM - With vision, knowledge and sensitivity to both owners and finances she was nominated by residents for tackling and resolving insurance issues as well as overseeing a large property wide renovation and repair project. In addition she was recognized for engaging owners and addressing problems with out of the box approaches that succeed.

• Management Company of the Year: Wes Blair, Sterling Services Inc., Holliston - Presented with the Management Company of the Year award for their dedication to the industry, clients and CAI, and for exhibiting excellence in customer service, management, governance and finance.

Community of the Year: Sheffield Heights Condominiums, Saugus, MA and Watermill Place Condominium, Arlington, MA - For effectively communicating with owners and working together with professionals to accomplish projects, overcome challenges and maintain a quality community lifestyle for residents.

• Recruiter of the Year: Peter Westhaver, CMCA, AMS, PCAM, Barkan Management Company, Boston - For recruiting the most number of new CAI members in 2015. CAI has more than 33,000 members nationwide and CAI NE is among the top 10 largest chapters in the country thanks to member recruiters.

• CAI-NE Volunteer of the Year: Andy Costa, Medford, and Charlotte Scuderi, Medford - Volunteers who have contributed countless hours working on CAI-NE chapter committees and boards, to benefit CAI NE, its members and the industry.

Volunteers who are working at the local, state and federal level to affect positive governmental change for community associations around New England, from arguing appeals before state supreme courts and testifying at legislative committee hearings to meeting with federal law makers and government agencies.

• CAI-NE Hall Of Fame Award: Scott Wolf, CMCA, AMS, PCAM, owner/CEO, Greater Boston Properties, Boston - The chapter’s most prestigious award recognizes with the highest honor and distinction members who have throughout their career consistently supported and promoted CAI, the chapter and the community association industry. In addition to his service on a number of committees including the membership committee, managers committee, program advisory council and Legislative Action Committee, he is a two-term CAI board member and past president. A consummate advocate for associations he is a frequent chapter speaker at programs and meetings around N.E.
