Werenfels of Durkee, Brown, Viveiros & Werenfels elected to board of advisors of Nat'l. Trust for Historic Preservation

Martha Werenfels, a principal architect at Durkee, Brown, Viveiros & Werenfels Architects of Providence, has been elected to the board of advisors of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. She will serve as advisor to the national nonprofit preservation organization for a three-year term. The board, established in 1966, increases the National Trust's direct contact and communication with state and local constituents through the creation of a nationwide network of volunteer preservation leaders, and works closely with the trust's regional offices. Werenfels has worked on a great variety of historic preservation projects, including the Rhode Island State House, the Newport Casino, and the Tabernacle on Martha's Vineyard. She is involved in several projects that focus on combining historic preservation and sustainability principles. Werenfels serves as a board member of the Providence Preservation Society Revolving Fund and PAL Inc., a non-profit cultural resources firm. She holds a bachelor of architecture from Cornell University and a master's degree in American History from Brown University. "Martha is such a welcomed addition to the National Trust board of advisors," said Wendy Nicholas, northeast office director. "She brings a strong understanding of historic preservation principles through her work and extensive portfolio of innovative projects."
