WinnCompanies renovates mill into 97-unit Curtain Lofts

WinnCompanies christened its new Curtain Lofts redevelopment with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Originally constructed in 1872, the former Wampanoag Granite Mill located at 420 Quequechan St., has been converted into LEED-certifiable, mixed-income housing community for active adults aged 55 and over. WinnResidential serves as the property manager for the site. "We're excited to report that Curtain Lofts is now fully leased only a few short months after we completed construction in October 2011," said Gilbert Winn, Managing Principal of WinnCompanies. "This property has created a high-quality living environment for Fall River's diverse age-restricted population, while preserving the historic integrity of the original granite mill." The 97-unit Curtain Lofts offers residents one and two bedroom apartment homes many with chef quality kitchens, a wide range of amenities, including a community gaming room, a gazebo and dog park, fitness and laundry centers. Just recently, Preservation Massachusetts recognized WinnCompanies and Curtain Lofts with the prestigious Paul E. Tsongas Award, which recognizes those who have played an extraordinary role in preserving the past for the benefit of the future. "WinnCompanies was truly a pleasure to work with and did a magnificent job at restoring our historic granite mill while maintaining the identity of our great town," said Fall River Mayor William Flanagan. "Fall River residents now have another great option to choose from when looking for a place to call home." "The Patrick-Murray Administration is committed to supporting the production of quality, mixed-income housing for elderly residents of the Commonwealth," added Undersecretary of Housing and Community Development Aaron Gornstein. "Curtain Lofts will be a welcome addition to the Fall River community." Through the course of the building's renovation, over 100 new jobs were created for Fall River and Massachusetts residents.
