Wright-Ryan Construction, Inc. has exceeded goals in their commitment to the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). In 2005, Wright-Ryan entered into a formal agreement with the DEP and joined a dozen companies in the "STEP-UP" program which is the DEP's voluntary program encouraging businesses to surpass environmental laws and regulations. Wright-Ryan remains the only construction firm in the state of Maine to exceed environmental commitments as established by the DEP.
The Step-Up contract calls for specific and measurable goals that are publicly reported on an annual basis. Most recently, Wright-Ryan surpassed their goal of having 10 LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professionals (APs). LEED APs offer a project team an advantage in the processes involved with attaining the LEED Certified status of a building. The Wright-Ryan staff is comprised of more than ten LEED AP individuals which is the most LEED APs at any construction company in the state of Maine and is a significant statement to the company's commitment to their environmental initiatives. LEED APs include Mike Barton, Rick Bergeron, Tom Burrill, Tom Carey, Derek Converse, Nathan Croteau, Craig Hill, Tom Frederick, Dave Onos, John Moynihan, and Pat Richter.
Governor Baldacci previously said, "I am very pleased that Wright-Ryan has stepped up to help Maine by joining this environmental leadership program. I am pleased when we can achieve environmental and energy goals while also helping improve the bottom line." Wright-Ryan has also recently been awarded recognition from the governor's office for reducing their carbon footprint and exceeding their goal as set for them by the Governor's Carbon Challenge.
