The new 100,000 s/f Market Basket store located at the corner of Elm and West Auburn Sts. in downtown Manchester is nearing completion. RMD Inc of Tewksbury, Mass. is developing the store for Demoulas Super Markets Inc and the Market Basket stores. Prellwitz/Chilinski Associates Inc of Cambridge, Mass. is the project architect and Pro Con Inc of Manchester is the general contractor for the project, which includes the supermarket, as well as space for retail tenants.
"The interior finishes are complete and we are finalizing the installation of the electrical and refrigeration systems," said the project manager for Pro Con Inc. "Construction of the free-standing Elm St. stair tower that will lead customers from the street level to the front entrance of the store is underway." The new store, which will feature a Market's Café, a Market's Kitchen, and an in-store bakery, is scheduled to open later this month.
Metro Walls, Inc. of Manchester is part of Pro Con's team in the construction of the store. As part of the local community, Metro Walls is pleased to be part of the Market Basket project. The company is providing all interior and exterior framing and drywall, including interior finishes such as FRP and installing the door frames.
The store is located in the downtown Manchester on a 10.7 acre site that was formerly home to Rockwell Automation Inc's Allen Bradley plant. As part of the extensive renovation project, Pro Con Inc demolished a portion of the structure including exterior walls and the existing concrete slab. Pro Con Inc recycled 95% of the demolished construction waste material from the former building, diverting tons of debris from the landfills. Upon completion, Pro Con Inc will apply to have the Market Basket store become LEED certified.
