Campanelli Construction, a full-service construction management firm, has completed a 63,000 s/f renovation of the formerly vacant Cranberry Specialty/St. Luke's Hospital into a psychiatric hospital for High Point Treatment Center. It will be known as High Point Hospital.
Currently, High Point operates inpatient and outpatient programs in Plymouth, Brockton, New Bedford, and Taunton. The new location will allow High Point to expand from 16 psychiatric beds in Plymouth, Mass. to 72 beds. Jobs will be created for 200 people, consisting of physicians, nurses, clinicians, maintenance staff, housekeepers, dietary, mental health, and administrative staff.

High Point, provides treatment to individuals and families suffering from addiction, mental illness, domestic violence and homelessness. The facility in Middleborough will provide inpatient psychiatric treatment and outpatient services.
Due to the sensitivity of some patients' cases, Campanelli Construction employed anti-ligature construction during renovations. When planning the construction of a psychiatric facility, it is essential to eliminate points where a cord, rope, or bed sheet can be looped or tied to a fixture in order to create a point of ligature, which may result in self-harm or in extreme cases, loss of life.
Pete Brown, director of business development at Campanelli Construction, emphasizes that "the High Point project emulates the epitome of the Campanelli vertically-integrated approach to construction management of complicated health care projects. The company offered a custom, strategic pre-construction service for the project, enabling its success after an extensive permitting and approval process.
Many typical items found in bedrooms and bathrooms would be considered standard to any construction, yet after evaluating the risks at hand, were determined to pose a risk of ligature. Alternate products, such as special hardware, sprinkler heads, and light and plumbing fixtures were used in order to achieve the same function, yet provide a safe environment for both patients and staff. The construction team also installed a track in each bathroom ceiling with Velcro in place of shower hooks, thereby eliminating shower curtain rods. Baseboards throughout High Point Hospital are vinyl, and affixed with an anti-pick caulking, making it impossible to remove or splinter. Safety screens over windows provide tamper-proof security, and carefully installed cameras throughout the premises ensure patient and staff safety.
