Beverly, MA The YMCA of the North Shore is relocating its administrative staff to a new space at 200 Cummings Center. The 12,254 s/f facility is earmarked for offices, which are currently located at 245 Cabot St. The nonprofit organization anticipates an April move-in date.
The YMCA of the North Shore is the umbrella organization for seven local Ys, located in the communities of Gloucester, Beverly, Haverhill, Ipswich, Marblehead, Salem, and Plaistow, N.H. The organization provides affordable housing and before- and after-school care, as well as early education, recreation, fitness, and a wide variety of other community programs and activities for people of all ages.
In July of 2019, the YMCA of the North Shore was awarded the opportunity to expand and improve its current inventory of affordable housing units on Cabot St. from 45 to 67. With the financial support of the Department of Housing and Community Development and the support of the municipal administration and City Council, this $22 million project will transform the Cabot St. location, which has been serving the community since 1901.
Chris Lovasco, president and CEO of the YMCA of the North Shore, said, “Our administrative staff is thrilled about the move, and we are thankful to Cummings Properties for being mindful of our nonprofit status while working closely with our team to find the right location, design the layout, and construct a new customized space.”
Cummings Properties senior account manager Mary Carroll worked directly with the YMCA of the North Shore on the lease.
“We were delighted to accommodate the Y’s need for a new administrative space at our Cummings Center campus,” said Carroll. “Its central location and abundance of on-site amenities make it an ideal place to locate any type of business.”
Although this is the first lease the nonprofit has had with Cummings Properties, the two organizations have a long history. In 2004, Cummings Foundation donated $1 million to the YMCA of the North Shore to fund the creation of its Douglas Stephens Teen Center, named in memory of a longtime executive vice president of Cummings Properties.
