2019 Women in Construction: Olivia Henry, Marketing and Business Development Coordinator at Delphi Construction, Inc.

March 29, 2019 - Spotlights

How many years have you been in your current field? 1 year and 9 months

What were your biggest fears when you started out in your profession? Not being heard, or not having a voice. As someone who is naturally soft-spoken and shy in certain social situations, in a predominantly male industry it’s scary starting out as a young professional woman. I remember first starting and having weekly meetings and calls being the youngest, newest person and the only woman. Luckily, I am encouraged to offer my opinions and give feedback. Delphi is very inclusive and supportive of all employees and strives to embrace the importance of working together as a team. It has been incredibly positive working in an inclusive and supportive environment.

What are you doing differently in 2019 that has had a positive impact on your career? Pushing myself to do more and thinking outside of the box in both my personal life and in my professional life. It started last fall with a trip to Ireland, just taking an opportunity a little out of my comfort zone and regular routine. I’m hoping to continue to push myself out of my comfort zone and try new things whether it’s learning how to further make updates in the backend of the website, design work in Photoshop, or brainstorming some social media content ideas.

Who are three women – living or dead – that you would like to have drinks with and why? Princess Diana, Ellen DeGeneres, and Joan of Arc … three very different women. Each of the women I listed where pioneers in their lives (and some who are still alive, continue to be). Each in very different ways, but all brave and strong. I strongly believe that’s something to aspire to, to be brave, be bold, and make a difference in our world as a woman, each in our own way.

Which project, deal or transaction was the “game changer” in the advancement of your career during the last 10 years? About two years ago, received an opportunity to work for a construction management company and join the construction industry. While working for Delphi, I knew I wanted to focus on a career in marketing, a path that took a while for me to carve out. Since coming to Delphi and working here, my skillset has widened and my interest in continuing to grow has been well maintained.
