2025 Women in Construction: Angela Dewar, Bergmeyer

Angela Dewar
Associate, Senior Interior Designer
Bergmeyer

What is one project or achievement in your career that you are most proud of, and how did it impact your organization or community? From 2019-2022 we renovated the James B Beam Distillery Co campus in Clermont, KY. The ask was to reimagine the guest experience on their historic campus and in doing so we renovated eight buildings to better suit this vision. This project was the first time I had collaborated with internal team members and outside partners at a scale of this magnitude. The learnings we took from that process have shaped how we work together on all future teams, regardless of the size and complexity as we’ve found that working collaboratively leads to a more engaging process, and ultimately a better outcome.

Who or what has inspired you most in your career, and what advice would you share with the next generation of women entering the A/E/C industry? When I started my career, I worked at a very small firm, so I often accompanied the owner to client meetings and presentations as well as construction site visits. I saw first-hand how spaces came to be built and how issues were resolved on site. That in-the-field experience early on allowed me to be agile and see challenges as opportunities, which has been invaluable in my growth and success as a designer, and I encourage everyone to experience those on-site / in-the-field meetings as much as they can.

What’s your favorite way to recharge or get inspired outside of work? Summer: I like to run by the ocean or play tennis Winter: I enjoy reading or taking a spin class.
