2026 Women in Construction: Maureen Donato, NV5

Maureen Donato, PE, CDP
Senior Mechanical Engineer
NV5

What women should know about industry opportunities: There is so much more to the construction industry than the skilled labor positions which many people associate with construction. Design and consulting in architecture and the many engineering fields offer the opportunity to see projects from the initial design conception to the built reality. Project management which involves costs, scheduling and communication, is needed by all parties involved in construction. There is so much opportunity to pursue a position based on your interests.

Advice for women starting their careers: Take advantage of networking opportunities as much as possible. Join professional societies and participate in industry events and seminars at the local chapter level and beyond. The professional relationships formed will be a valuable resource for knowledge sharing, giving and receiving career advice and learning of new job opportunities. It is easier than ever to keep in touch with people and maintain the connections you make through LinkedIn.

Share one fun or unexpected detail about yourself that colleagues might not know. Working outside in my yard on landscaping and gardening projects is my favorite way to relax and decompress.
