ACEC/MA names Nitsch Engineering as 2019 silver award winner for MIT’s North Corridor project

Cambridge, MA The American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts (ACEC/MA) has named Nitsch Engineering as a silver award winner for Engineering Excellence for their work on MIT’s North Corridor.

The North Corridor project provided the opportunity to reinforce MIT’s position as a leader in campus sustainability and stewardship for stormwater, landscape ecology, and resilience. A vision of a landscaped student space made the site an ideal fit to serve as a pilot project for the implementation of existing stormwater management strategies and a testing ground for unique tools formulated in the Landscape Ecology Plan. Nitsch Engineering’s innovation in designing a flexible landscape filter – a unique modification of the bioretention basin technique – reduced drainage to the city system using a design that could be manipulated around complex urban utilities.

The 2019 Engineering Excellence Awards were announced at the recent ACEC/MA Engineering Excellence and Awards Gala with special guest emcees Jonathan Gulliver, highway administrator at MassDOT and Frederick Laskey, executive director of MWRA.

“Each year we gather to celebrate and recognize engineering firms for projects that demonstrate innovation and excellence,” said Michael Walsh, PE, president of ACEC/MA and vice president of CDM Smith. “We congratulate our winners who work tirelessly throughout the year to advance the goals and values of our organization and the industry.”
