ASIS Boston presents two events including a Public Safety Luncheon

June 05, 2008 - Owners Developers & Managers
ASIS Boston has two events this month:
*Public Safety Luncheon: June 12th, at 12:30 p.m. This program will take place at Lantana, 43 Scanlon Dr., Randolph, Mass.
Guest speaker Juliette Kayyem is the undersecretary of public safety for Homeland Security, serving since the post's creation in January 2007. She began her career in public service as a lawyer for the U.S. Department of Justice and was later legal counsel to then-attorney general Janet Reno. One of the few women in the national security world, Kayyem is one of the only woman commissioners on the congressionally appointed National Commission on Terrorism, a commission that warned America, in early 2001, that the terrorist threat was real, and likely to succeed in America. A graduate of Harvard University and Harvard Law School, Kayyem is a lecturer at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government. A leading contemporary expert on national security strategy, she is co-author of the acclaimed new book, "Preserving Liberty in the Age of Terror."
Kayyem currently heads the National Security Program at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. She is also well known to television viewers from her expert commentary as NBC News National Security analyst.
*Educational Presentation: Internal Investigations: June 17th at noon. This program will take place at Mass. General Hospital Building 149 13th St., Charlestown, Mass.
About the program: Internal investigations have become a fact of life for corporations, large and small, public and private. Whether initiated by an inquiry from a governmental agency, a shareholder complaint, allegations of sexual harassment, internal compliance concerns, or employee misconduct, these internal corporate investigations often involve security directors and other key corporate employees taking a direct role in the investigation.
Unfortunately, internal investigations, if not conducted properly, have the potential to create significant legal exposure for the company. For this reason, it is imperative that corporate directors and managers understand the best practices for conducting an internal investigation, how to avoid common legal pitfalls, and how to best support the internal investigation team.
Mintz Levin attorneys Joseph Lipchitz, Donald Schroeder, and Martha Zackin will share their internal investigation experience and provide a practical half-day educational seminar on internal investigations.
