Bowdoin Construction completes 50,000 s/f $7.5 million campus

South Area Solomon Schechter Day School (SASSDS) - Norwood, MA

The South Area Solomon Schechter Day School's (SASSDS) new 4.6-acre $7.5 million campus was completed on budget and on time - ready for the start of the new school year.
The fast-track construction phase, led by general contractor Bowdoin Construction, began on February 1st, and was completed a few weeks before the first day of school on September 4th.
The campus includes three buildings totaling 50,000 s/f including the main school, new gym, and development / business offices. The campus is just off Rte. 1 behind Home Depot and Stop & Shop, located near several major highways along the Rte. 1 corridor.
School leaders commended Bowdoin Construction's vice president Irwin Yanowitz; construction consultant William Pineo; The Energy Guys / Energy Economics' Gary Elovitz, and the school's project manager Steve Greenberg. They also thanked Elizabeth Jick of Zions Bank and the team at Sovereign Bank. They also thanked SASSDS parent David Maltz of FloorTech.
The new facility more than doubles the school's previous space and has room for about 40% more students with expansion potential. Besides the new gym / performing arts center, the school includes a state-of-the-art science, music, art and drama facilities. A highlight is the Israel Arbeiter Interfaith Gallery of Understanding. There is plenty of parking and outdoor playground space.
According to the director of institutional advancement Harry Bloom the school has raised $6.3 million, or 84% of its fundraising goal. The school also used proceeds from a MassDevelopment tax-exempt bond issue to aid with the purchase and renovation of the new campus.
