Henry White, Jr., has been named executive vice president/chief executive officer of the CCIM Institute, the governing body of one of the largest commercial real estate networks in the world. He succeeds Susan Groeneveld, CCIM, who is semi-retiring after 23 years with the organization.
White will lead a staff of more than 50 professionals and will work in conjunction with the CCIM Institute management team and volunteer leaders to develop and implement the organization's strategic plan and related membership, education, and technology initiatives adopted by the board of directors.
White served formerly as the executive director and chief operating officer of the American Bar Association (ABA), and the president of the Institute of International Container Lessors, the international representative of the intermodal container and chassis leasing industry.
A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and the Fordham University School of Law, White initially practiced law as a member of the New York-based firm Hill Betts & Nash. He subsequently served as the Deputy Commissioner of Transportation for the City of New York, responsible for the operations and oversight of all mass transit owned, operated or subsidized by the City of New York. He later served as Counsel to the Mayor of New York City. Returning to private practice, he provided corporate and litigation advice to transportation, insurance, manufacturing, and energy companies, and opened and managed the New York City office of the Los Angeles-based law firm Barger & Wolen.
White has served on the Department of Homeland Security's Advisory Committee on Commercial Operations of Customs and Border Protection, and has been involved in numerous professional and charitable organizations, including service as an officer of the Fordham University School of Law Alumni Association.
On his retirement from the Navy Reserve, White held the rank of Rear Admiral and was serving as Vice Commander of the U.S. Fleet Forces Command, the Navy's largest operational command responsible for the organization, manning and equipping of all U.S. Naval Forces assigned to combatant commanders worldwide.
