Natick, MA Dacon Corp. has completed the expansion of Kula Bio’s Technology & Development Center, adding manufacturing, office, and laboratory spaces essential for its growth. This marks Dacon’s second project with Kula Bio, a six-year-old tough tech startup in the agricultural biologicals market. Kula Bio manufactures Kula-N, an innovative non-GMO microbial product that serves as a replacement to synthetic nitrogen fertilizers, enhancing crop yield while minimizing environmental impact.

Approximately half of the world’s food supply relies on synthetic fertilizers, which significantly contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. Kula-N offers a natural, sustainable, alternative, using a unique microbe powered by an organic, carbon-rich renewable energy source that substantially boosts its nitrogen-fixing capabilities. Kula-N produces nitrogen on demand for efficient uptake, addressing various environmental issues in the agricultural market by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and preventing nutrient loss. This innovative approach ensures that crops receive necessary nitrogen when needed, minimizing waste and environmental impact. The product’s efficacy has been successfully tested in research and on-farm trials across various crops in different geographical locations.

Kevin Quinn, Dacon’s CEO, said, “This expansion of Kula Bio’s production facilities enhances their innovative manufacturing processes and creates differentiated supply chains in the agriculture industry. Better soil quality equals better health. Their work in improving agricultural outcomes is important to all of us.”

In January of 2022, Kula Bio secured $50 million in Series A funding led by Lowercarbon Capital to build manufacturing facilities near key agricultural producers. This year, they were recognized as one of the Top Ten Organic Fertilizer Services Providers by Agri Business Review.

Bill Brady, Kula Bio’s CEO, stated, “We are not only addressing obstacles to sustainable practices, but also focusing on accessibility and affordability. Kula-N offers an organic, sustainable alternative that is cost-effective compared to synthetic fertilizers while enhancing crop productivity and performance.”
