EMCOR receives design/build award

October 21, 2016 - Construction Design & Engineering

Vernon, CT EMCOR Services New England Mechanical (NEMSI), one of New England’s leading mechanical services contractors, has recently again been honored with a 1st Place Design/Build Award by Contracting Business Magazine, a national HVAC publication. NEMSI was recognized in the 100,000 s/f category for its design and installation of new energy efficient HVAC systems at Forstone Capital in Bridgeport, Conn. This is the fifth 1st place Design/Build Award NEMSI has received from Contracting Business

EMCOR Services New England Mechanical is a subsidiary of the EMCOR Group, Inc., a Fortune 500® leader in mechanical and electrical construction, industrial and energy infrastructure, and building services for a diverse range of businesses.

“The Contracting Business Design/Build Awards program is intended to honor the most innovative work being done by commercial HVAC contractors across the nation, so it is extremely gratifying to again be recognized for Design/Build excellence” said Dana Finnegan, president & CEO, EMCOR Services New England Mechanical.

Forstone Capital’s key objective for the project was to increase the energy efficiency of the aging building systems at its flagship building, and lower overall the facility’s operating costs. NEMSI was contracted to investigate, analyze, and implement energy efficient upgrades at the facility based upon Forstone Capital’s past success at doing the same at four of its other properties. NEMSI provided complete turnkey services, from project conception to measurement and verification of the energy savings of the headquarters building.

The overall project cost was approximately $2.4 million, but this was offset by $469,000 in utility incentives that NEMSI was able to secure through the Energize Connecticut program. NEMSI was also instrumental in securing financing for the project through the Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy program (C-PACE) for $1,992,683. The financing and utility incentive covered the total cost of the project so there was no up front, out of pocket expense to Forstone.  Annual energy savings with the new systems will amount to an estimated $242,000 or approximately $6 million in energy savings over the lifetime of the upgrades.
