Congratulations to the Boston Metropolitan Chapter #4! The efforts and hard work of the Chapter’s membership, officers and executive councilors have paid off. The Boston Metropolitan Chapter #4 has been named the largest chapter by IREM Headquarters!! The Boston chapter is 1 of 80 chapters nationwide and we are extremely proud to share the news that the Boston Chapter is now leading the charge and setting the example. Of course, none of this would be possible without the dedication of the membership, officers and executive councilors.

I would like to acknowledge my fellow officers in this great accomplishment and I am sincerely honored to serve the members alongside of my colleagues Peter Lewis, president elect; Gregg Jenner, vice president; Owen Ahearn, treasurer; and Warren Lizio secretary. I would also like to acknowledge the dedication of the executive councilors Nancy Reno, CPM ; Philip Renzi, CPM ; Neilie Sequeira, CPM; Craig Chisholm, CPM and Brian Calabro, CPM.

The New England Chapter #4 was founded on May 4, 1938, providing IREM services within its geographical region. The growth of the chapter over the past seventy eight years has paralleled the expansion of the real estate industry and the property management profession in its region of influences. The Boston chapter membership has grown to a count of 635 members.

Representing a fourth generation of professional property managers in my family is something I am extremely proud of. Holding Key No. 15, my great grandfather, Harry Gilbert, was one of the first certified property managers in the country in 1932. My father, Douglas Thayer, represents the third generation of professional property managers to assume a leadership role with IREM. Doug served as the president of the Boston Chapter in 1991 and received his designation as certified property manager, Key No. 10174, in 1985. I now hold Key No. 20415.

The Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) is an international community of real estate managers dedicated to ethical business practices, maximizing the value of investment real estate, and promoting superior management through education and information sharing. An affiliate of the National Association of Realtors, IREM is the home for all industry professionals connected to real estate management – and the only organization serving both the multi-family and commercial sectors.

We believe that good management matters and that well-managed properties pay dividends in terms of value and in the quality of life for residents, tenants and customers. We believe in professional ethics. We believe in the power of knowledge and the importance of sharing it. We are fortunate to be a part of this great organization that emphasizes the highest standard of excellence in our profession. Thank you to the members of the IREM Boston Chapter #4 for helping us achieve this very important milestone.

For more information about the Chapter’s planned events in 2016, please contact Kelley Hannon at the Boston Chapter office at 617-436-7565 or via email at iremboston@iremboston.com.

Candice Morse, ARM, CPM, is the 2016 president of the IREM Boston Metropolitan Chapter #4 and senior property manager at Thayer & Associates, Inc. AMO, Cambridge, Mass.
