KPM Demolition performs an exterior demolition project at the Wal-Mart

KPM Demolition is currently working on an exterior demolition project at the Wal-Mart in Tewksbury. This project involves seven different phases of a major renovation of storefront, structural slab, eifs and perimeter CMU block walls. The project includes the use of three Bobcat skid steers, one 315 Caterpillar excavator with thumb attachment, jackhammers and concrete wall saws. The utilization of all terrain scissor lifts is to gain access to existing parapet to perform the necessary cuts for the new roof expansion. This project also includes the saw cutting and removal of 20,000 sq. ft. of 6 inch concrete slab for underground plumbing and electrical utility installation. KPM Demolition is also performing the new door openings of various dimensions throughout the building. With a project of this size there are always ways to advert and avoid problems that may arise or impede the project schedule. During the demolition of the CMU block exterior walls a white substance was identified within them. With the experience from other similar projects, precaution was taken. The material was tested and a Material Safety Data Sheet was compiled of the results. The results showed that the white substance (as presumed) turned out to be perlite and determined that the material was not hazardous by OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (29CFR1910.1200.) This project is one of many that KPM Demolition has successfully performed and completed and in many cases ahead of schedule.
