The Associated Builders and Contractors of Connecticut (ABC) has honored EMCOR Services New England Mechanical (NEMSI) with a First Place Mechanical Award for its work on The Renaissance, a new high-rise residential building in Shelton. The award was presented at the ABC annual dinner, as part of the organization's 2009 Excellence in Construction program, which recognizes the best construction projects in the state of Connecticut.
One of New England's leading mechanical services contractors, NEMSI is a subsidiary of EMCOR Group, Inc., a Fortune 500 leader in mechanical and electrical construction energy infrastructure and facilities services for a diverse range of businesses.
NEMSI was responsible for the design and installation of the complex HVAC systems for The Renaissance, a 16-story rental apartment/condo project. According to Dana Finnegan, president of NEMSI, there were several significant challenges that were overcome in order to ensure the success of the project.
"The original plan called for 168 residential units, but the developer changed the plan, from all apartments to a combination of apartments and high-end condominiums, after the building's shell and much of the infrastructure was already in place," Finnegan explained. "We needed to make rapid adjustments to our program in the middle of construction, while adhering to a strict budget and tight schedule."
Another challenge occurred during construction when it began to appear that the team's plumbing contractor would not be able to meet the project's schedule. The owner asked NEMSI to assist in completing the plumbing systems and to assume responsibility for several aspects of the plumbing installation. As a result of NEMSI's efforts, The Renaissance was completed on time and on budget.
"We are extremely gratified to be honored by our peers for our work on this important project," Finnegan said. "With a residential development like The Renaissance, timing is critical; we are pleased that we were able to step in and meet the owner's needs despite the difficult circumstances."
