Past year has been very productive for our IREM chapter - by Colleen Costa

This past year has been very productive for our IREM chapter. As a chapter, we have increased membership, networking activities, and educational offerings.

Our membership efforts have brought an increase of 89 members across the board. Membership is the heart of our chapter. Each board member took a member’s name to be a life coach and helping them complete their classes and requirements for our designations. Executive board meetings were also well attended.

Networking activities included five trade shows, eight meetings with speakers, and seven events held at interesting venues in the Boston area. A career fair was added to introduce individuals in our market area to property management. Our Dick Keller from our educational speaker series was interesting. The new Pub Crawl event brought many new and old members too! A new calendar has been added which will be updated as the staff add events so as not to interfere with other organization’s events.

Educational courses offered included eleven courses for designations and ten seminar courses of interest to our members.

We also saw one of our long time members Chris Mellen, CPM become our National president at our conference in October in Salt lake City, Utah.

It now time to pass on the baton to our president elect and president for 2016 Morse Morse, CPM. A Suma Cum Laude graduate of Suffolk University, Morse joined the Thayer & Associate’s property management team as a fourth generation real estate manager in 2003. Morse actively manages a portfolio comprised of more than 400 condominium units in the Greater Boston Area.

In 2004, Morse received her Accredited Residential Manager’s designation through the Institute of Real Estate Management-Boston Chapter and in May 2008 earned her Certified Property Manager’s designation. She was awarded the first Fourth Generation Award through IREM as the first fourth generation Certified Property Manager in the Institute’s history.

In 2007, Morse was inducted to serve on the executive counselors committee for the IREM Boston Chapter. She is presently chairing the IREM professional women’s committee and serving as 2015 president elect. Morse is also an active member of the Community Associations Institute - New England Chapter.

Morse currently resides in Littleton, Mass. with her husband Aaron, daughter Eden and son Evan.

I have enjoyed the busy year meeting new people in our industry, working with our membership and will continue to give back to IREM by working on the IREM National committees I have been assigned.

Colleen Costa, CPM, ARM, is the 2015 IREM Boston president and president and principal of CPC Management, LLC, Kingston, Mass.
