Presidents message: A new year dawns new opportunities

Welcome to a new year at CAI-N.E. As 2009 chapter president, I know I have some big Crocs to fill. If you have ever had the pleasure of meeting outgoing president Richard Brooks, you know that his preferred choice of footwear can be less than traditional. Do not be mislead, Brooks has been all business throughout his many years of dedicated service and unwavering commitment to CAI-NE. He has been a determined force behind the organization from the beginning, and I hope to achieve even a fraction of his accomplishments for CAI-N.E. Richard, we thank you. As a professional portfolio-manager of community associations, I look forward to bringing a unique perspective to my chapter leadership and to the organization. While my involvement in CAI does not span decades like many countless volunteers before me who have worked tirelessly for the association, my enthusiasm for the CAI vision will continue to drive forward the CAI-N.E. mission and its goals and objectives. Through my involvement with CAI and the New England chapter, the knowledge I have gained and skills I have learned through educational opportunities as well as the exchange of ideas with colleagues and peers have all become invaluable professional tools. Over the next 12 months, I look forward to expanding these chapter resources and opportunities to many more homeowners living in common interest communities and new community association volunteer leaders as well as industry professionals throughout New England. Now more than ever, during these times of economic uncertainty, it is imperative that communities of all sizes are empowered with as much knowledge as possible. CAI-N.E. staff and volunteers are here for community association volunteer leaders and the professionals who serve them, and we will certainly do our part, but we need you...yes you dear reader, to be involved! As the chairman of the membership committee for the past four years, I know firsthand that our members make us one of the strongest chapters nationally, however I believe that there are many more who can benefit from being involved. I challenge all members and readers over the next year to get more involved in CAI and the chapter. Attend a seminar, take a class, visit our website at www.caine.org, volunteer at an event or sign up a friend. No matter how you participate, your time spent is one investment that is sure to guarantee positive returns. Jared McNabb CMCA, AMS, PCAM, is the 2009 president of CAI N.E. and director of acquisitions at Crowninshield Management, Peabody, Mass.
