Welcome to 2016.  I look forward to serving our members as this year’s president.  A former colleague asked “Why in the world would you do such a thing?”  Good question.  I began serving on the board and agreeing to be president after being asked by brokers I have worked with, like and respect. I’ve since met many new friends and had the pleasure of working with a lot of smart, hardworking people on behalf of CIBOR.  I think the organization does a great job looking after its member’s interests and is surely deserving of my time. Thus, I look forward to serving as its president.

In 2016 I hope to continue the work of my predecessor’s by continuing to add value to a CIBOR membership and elevate the status of commercial realtors in the marketplace. We will do this through a combination of strategies.

We will continue building our alliances with State Government, the New Hampshire (NHR) and National Association of Realtors (NAR) and strategic business partners.  Currently we are working with the N.H. Department of Resources and Economic Development to become a content provider for their new commercial property database.  With the help of incoming NAR treasurer Tom Riley and executives at NHR we are expanding our grant requests from NAR for use in developing ways for municipalities to better manage the development approval process.  And we are working with the Warren Group on a bundled membership that would allow for additional New England-wide real estate research tools at a reduced cost structure.  This would be in addition to the Realtors Property Resource (www.narrpr.com), a demographics analysis service from NAR that will be implemented into the New England Property Exchange at no cost.

We will continue to provide high-quality, low-cost educational programs that specifically benefit our members, with content clearly focused on issues relevant to conducting the business of commercial real estate in our region.  Our members have access to for-credit educational courses and seminars put on by CIBOR that deal with meaningful topics requested by our members.  Our member prices range from reasonable to free.

We will continue our work with the N.H. Real Estate Commission to make sure commercial real estate brokerage is well-defined by the commission and properly regulated for the benefit of all parties, particularly the consumer.

CIBOR has been well managed by many dedicated people throughout the years and regularly needs new volunteers and fresh ideas to continue to move forward.  Please let us know if you would like to be involved and please let us know how we can help bring value to your membership commitment.  I look forward to working with all of you in 2016.

Bob Marchewka is the 2016 president of the New Hampshire Commercial and Investment Board of Realtors.
