PROCON has completed Wiggins Airways' new $3 million design build expansion that provides a fourth hangar to the general aviation facility. PROCON was the architect and construction manager for the hangar which is being used for aircraft storage. Wiggins Airways is located at the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport.
"The Temporary Certificate of Occupancy was received one day ahead of schedule," said the PROCON project manager. "The new hangar is fully operational and Wiggins Airways was able to move aircraft into the new hangar in early February. We will complete the expansion's exterior landscaping in the spring."
The 23,240 s/f hangar has the ability to accommodate various types of general aviation equipment and is designed to handle multiple aircraft. The pre-engineered hangar has exterior metal panels and a pitched metal roof. The Norco Stack hangar door system measures 28-foot high by 114-foot wide to accommodate a wide variety of aircraft. The floor of the hangar will be coated with a high gloss white, non-slip floor finish.
Metal clips and expansion joints allow the new hanger to be physically connected to the existing building, while permitting the buildings to expand or contract up to two inches for thermal movement and enable the firewalls to be freestanding. An internal corridor allows Wiggins Airways' employees to pass from the hangars to the terminal building without having to go outdoors.
PROCON began construction on the hangar expansion project in September 2013 and Wiggins Airways moved the first aircraft into the new hangar in early February 2014.
Wiggins Airways, Inc. was founded in 1929. The company is a certified FAA Repair station and is a regional carrier of freight serving 11 states in the northeast and offers private passenger charter service. The company is also a commercial service provider of fuel, deice and other related services for commercial airlines at the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport. Wiggins Airways also maintains a full service AV-fuel FBO with pilot and passenger lounges on site.
The hangar expansion is the third project PROCON has designed and managed for Wiggins Airways. In 1999, PROCON completed Wiggins Airways' full service general aviation facility on the East Ramp of the Manchester Airport. The state-of-the-art complex, consisting of 77,000 s/f of hanger and operations area and 20,000 s/f of terminal building, was designed and constructed to service a full spectrum of uses including General Aviation terminal facilities, aircraft maintenance and Wiggins Airways corporate headquarters. In 2004, PROCON completed a fuel farm that services the Boston-Manchester Regional Airport, and is operated by Wiggins Airways. The facility consists of two 210,000-gallon steel storage tanks with off-loading stations and pumping stations for refueling tanker trucks.
