Related Beal celebrates opening of Bunker Hill Laundromat at 194 Bunker Hill St., Charlestown

Charlestown, MA Related Beal  celebrated the grand opening of Bunker Hill Laundromat, located at 194 Bunker Hill St. As the only laundromat in the town, the facility fills a longstanding gap in the neighborhood by offering accessible laundry services to residents. The laundromat is part of Related Beal’s $150 million investment in the town’s Rutherford Ave. and Sullivan Sq. area in support of the Charlestown Labs development.

“For too long, Charlestown was without a single laundromat – a basic service every neighborhood deserves. That absence was more than an inconvenience; it was a disservice to working families, seniors, and residents. When I was a Boston city councilor, I made it a priority to change that,” said senator Lydia Edwards, state senator for the Third Suffolk District and former Boston city councilor. “I’m proud to stand with the community as we celebrate the opening of the Bunker Hill Laundromat – a place that represents an investment in our residents’ quality of life.”

The laundromat provides a clean, safe, and convenient option for families and individuals in the neighborhood. Services at the facility include high capacity washing machines, energy efficient driers, folding stations, and a laundry card kiosk for contactless payments.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on site and attended by Senator Lydia Edwards, community members, and project partners.

“The new Bunker Hill Laundromat will ensure Charlestown residents and families have access to a critical service and resource that has been long overdue for the neighborhood,” said mayor Michelle Wu.

“The creation of this laundromat followed years of advocacy from our community members and local elected officials. I’m grateful to Related Beal and all of our partners for making today’s opening a reality and improving the quality of life for Charlestown’s families.”

“The Bunker Hill Laundromat is the direct result of ongoing dialogue with residents and community stakeholders,” said Aisha Miller, Vice President at Related Beal. “Our goal is always to further enrich the lives of the people who make our neighborhoods special, and to listen to them when they tell us what they want and need. We heard that this amenity was missing from the community, and we are thrilled to provide it as we grow our presence in Charlestown.”

The laundromat is part of Related Beal’s broader commitment to add to Charlestown’s vibrancy as it completes development of 420 and 440 Rutherford Avenue. Related Beal has also contributed substantial funds to the City to support the PLAN: Charlestown initiative; funded open space improvements through the Parks and Recreation Department; installed a new Bluebikes station; and created a pedestrian friendly streetscape to improve safety and quality of life for neighbors.

Earlier this month, Related signed a lease with PickleBos, which is set to open new pickleball courts later this year at 440 Rutherford. City Electric is also moving into the building, and other commercial tenants are expected to be announced in the coming months.

At 420 Rutherford, Related recently completed core and shell on a 112,000 s/f purpose-built lab building. Located at the intersection of Cambridge and Boston, the site offers convenient access to the MBTA, on-site parking, and easy access to the city’s thriving Charlestown neighborhood.
