Skanska's Connecticut office awarded LEED Silver certification

According to Skanska USA, its building business unit, which is a leading provider of construction management, preconstruction, and design-build services, has been awarded LEED Silver certification for its New Haven office.
The office earned credits including introduction of daylight-responsive light fixtures, reuse of an exisiting building and of more than a third of office furniture and other components, institution of an Indoor Air Quality plan during construction and utilization of no to low-VOC chemicals and materials. Skanska also provided individual task lighting to staff, ensured a higher level of outside air and reduced the lighting density load by one-third.
"Building green is something that we believe in as a company both because it is the right thing to do and because it makes sense financially. Our customers can testify to the positive results of this commitment," said Alan Sparn, senior vice president of Skanska's New Haven operations. "Our projected energy savings is on track to be 15%."
The 5,820 s/f Class A office space was completed on a nine-week, fast track schedule.
