Burlington, MA Charles Construction Company, Inc. has completed the Christopher Y. Ying Dialysis unit for Lahey Hospital and Medical Center. This 10,000 s/f on-campus medical fit-out is located on the 5th floor within Lahey Hospital & Medical Center complex on Mall Rd.

Seekonk, MA Roger Williams University and D.F. Pray General Contractors are launching a career training and scholarship program to develop talent and support underrepresented students majoring in construction management.  According to the university, D.F. Pray’s commitment of $100,000 to establish the D.F. Pray Scholars Program at RWU.

East Hartford, CT In October of 2022 Jewett Construction teamed up with Gengras Motor Cars to renovate their Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram and Volkswagen dealerships. The Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram facility finished its fully occupied renovation without disturbing Gengras’ ability to execute sales and was completed in January.

Cambridge, MA Acentech has promoted Jonah Sacks and Ioana Pieleanu to lead the firm’s architectural acoustics group, one of the largest acoustics practices in the United States. Sacks and Pieleanu are both expert acousticians and highly trained musicians.

Boston, MA Klopfer Martin Design Group (KMDG) has hired Daniel Norman as senior associate. With a complementary portfolio of work, he will help expand KMDG’s presence in New England. His joining the firm adds a further degree of senior-level design talent to the team benefiting the firm’s clients.

Boston, MA When the ribbon was cut to celebrate the opening of Boston University’s new Center for Computing & Data Sciences last month, it fell away onto a crucial but often overlooked element of the ambitious project: The engineered soils used throughout the site and even on the roof. The architecture, by KPMB Architects of Toronto, is said to look like a stack of books.

Bedford, MA Maugel DeStefano Architects has begun on a new 169,500 s/f research and development facility for Werfen, a worldwide leader in specialized diagnostics in the areas of hemostasis, acute care diagnostics and autoimmunity. The building will be located at Werfen’s Hartwell Rd. campus, on the site of an existing warehouse that will be demolished. 

Middletown, CT Consulting Engineering Services (CES), a multi-disciplined engineering firm, has completed 15 employee promotions, including two principals. Jim Kowalski, PE was elevated to principal. With CES for 19 years, he is the firm’s leader in geothermal design.

Newton Heights, MA Bowdoin Construction has hired Brendan O’Leary as assistant superintendent, and Stephen O’Shea as senior project coordinator. O’Leary has returned to the firm, having worked there from 2015 to 2018, and they welcome him back with open arms.

Boston, MA Petersen Engineering, a rapidly growing engineering firm focused on the sustainable design of high-performance buildings, has responded to the changing needs of Massachusetts architects, owners, and developers by establishing a new local office at 101 Summer St., to complement the firm’s headquarters in Portsmouth, N.H.

North Andover, MA Connolly Brothers, Inc. has completed a series of campus renovations at Brooks School, a private, coeducational boarding and day school for students in grades 9-12. Over seven months, Connolly served in multiple capacities, taking on a design-build role to transform the Campus Athletic Center’s McVeigh Court with a new varsity-length court, which involved wood floor refinishing, striping/graphics painting, the installation of abuse-resistant finishes in the gymnasium, and the relocation of a glass entryway.

Boston, MA SGA has hired Lauren Gauthier, AIA, MCPPO, as director of architecture for SGA’s academic team. Gauthier, who brings more than 10 years of architecture and design experience to SGA, is an experienced designer, planner, and registered architect with a focus on strategic planning and design in the academic realm, especially independent schools, and higher education.
