The United Illuminating Co. provides energy upgrades for Parish Court Elderly Housing

June 27, 2013 - Green Buildings
As temperatures begin to rise for the summer, residents of Fairfield's Parish Court Elderly Housing apartment complex will be more comfortable thanks to substantial energy efficiency upgrades made possible with the help of The United Illuminating Co. and the Conn. Energy Efficiency Fund's Energize Conn. programs.
Parish Court was operating with predominantly original equipment from the 1970s and was in desperate need of renovations that were both energy efficient and cost effective. Window air conditioning units and inability for residents to control heat temperature settings resulted in drafty apartments in the summer and open windows in the winter.
After replacing refrigerators, windows and doors, adding insulation and installing ductless heat pumps (eliminates the need for window AC units) in all 100 units at the recommendation of The United Illuminating Co., Parish Court now saves $44,526 annually on energy costs and will use the money saved on energy costs in addition to an $87,000 incentive payment from The Conn. Energy Efficiency Fund to pay back the cost of the project.
As administrators of Energize Connecticut programs, The United Illuminating Co. performed a free energy audit to identify opportunities for energy upgrades and worked directly with Millennium Real Estate Services to ensure Parish Court received their incentive payment from The Conn. Energy Efficiency Fund.
Energize Conn. programs help you save money and use clean, affordable energy. The programs are a partnership of the Energy Efficiency Fund, the Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority, and your local electric and gas utilities and are funded by a charge on customer energy bills. Information on energy efficiency programs can be found at EnergizeCT.com or by calling 1.877.WISE.USE.
