The YMCA of Greater Boston said that Tishman Construction Corp. of Mass. (TCCMA) will serve as project manager to build the Greenway YMCA at the intersection of the North End, Government Center, and downtown Boston. TCC will secure the development agreement between the Mass.Turnpike Authority (MTA) and the YMCA before beginning the design, permitting, and construction process for Parcel 6 of the Rose Fitzgerald Greenway.
The new Y will be located between New Chardon and New Sudbury Sts., near the Haymarket Mass. Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) station, and will serve as a community center for residents of the North End, West End, Charlestown and part of Beacon Hill.
"Working with Tishman Construction, we will design and build a Greenway Y that combines vital services with inspiring public spaces for Boston residents and visitors," said Stacey Lucchino, chairman of the board for YMCA of Greater Boston. "The Greenway Y project reinforces our commitment to invest in the people that make Boston America's greatest city and unite them around the values of health, wellness, and hope."

Expected to accommodate up to 15,000 children, teens, adults, and seniors, the Greenway Y is an important part of the YMCA of Greater Boston's urban improvement agenda that includes renovating and expanding the Dorchester and West Roxbury Family YMCAs, rebuilding the 1902 Hyde Park branch, and revitalizing the Central Branch Y in the Fenway. "Forty percent of Boston's poor live in some of the neighborhoods that will be served by the Greenway Y, including 29,000 children," said John Ferrell, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Boston. "Our vision for the Greenway Y is a community center in the broadest and best sense that delivers important, accessible and affordable community services to people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds."
