Lowell, MA VBA Construction Management has completed a new global headquarters expansion for Bottomline, a global leader in business payments. The 11,000 s/f project required gutting the entire space and installing a wide variety of office, ‘hotel’ and huddle spaces, a large communal kitchen break area and flexible conference and meeting rooms.

“We are finding that building flex and adaptable work environments is increasingly important as companies try to accommodate hybrid work schedules and maximize the efficiency of their office space,” said Paulo Ramalhinho, project manager for VBA. “Working with Bottomline and their design team we were able to build a sophisticated, high-tech and highly collaborative headquarters.”

Some of the special features of the new space are the natural plant wall, sound panels in booths and the boardroom, adaptable lighting and technology and a modern floor layout.

“We are proud of our new office space and a large credit is due to the VBA team,” said Cody Furbish, director of real estate and facilities, Bottomline. “They are highly organized, worked exceptionally well with our design team, and most importantly they respond almost immediately to questions and issues so we can keep to a tight schedule.”

Paulo said, “Today office managers and facility managers need to build flexible workspaces and technology enabled environments to optimize space utilization, reduce expenses, and attract and retain highly-skilled individuals.”

Bottomline recognizes that it is important for their employees to have options and to accommodate different styles of working from enclosed offices, open seating, conversational booths to bar seating in the kitchen and dining area. Given the flexibility of their new space, Bottomline can easily host large conferences and then quickly convert the space into smaller meeting or breakout rooms.

Cody said, “Our new space is working well and has resulted in hybrid employees spending more time in the office working and collaborating with their team members.”
