2020 Women in Construction: Alyssa Marino, Project Engineer at WB Engineers+Consultants

March 27, 2020 - Spotlights

What are you doing differently in 2020 that has had a positive impact on your career? This year I have been improving my collaboration skills between trades during the design process. This has improved productivity which resulted in more efficient designs.

What trends are you seeing in your field this year? Revit/BIM360. Though Revit design software has been a key design tool day to day over the years, I feel that now in 2020, Architecture and MEP firms are not only using this program more efficiently and effectively to design, but also to coordinate with contractors and end users.

Who or what inspired you to join the construction industry? When I think back to when I was younger, I always remember my Dad doing some type of renovations and construction around the house. I always took interest in what he was doing, which sparked my initial interest in architecture and construction. With him being an electrician, I always had some interest in the field. After college I started working at a MEP firm. After being there just a few months, I became more involved in Electrical Engineering, where I was lucky enough to have two great mentors who took the time and interest in me; who wanted to see me grow and aspire to be the best I could be. With this being said, my current inspiration would be Sarah MacLean, a fellow Engineer within my firm. I worked under Sarah for many years and seeing her day to day have such passion and interest in electrical engineering ultimately made me want to continue to peruse this field.
