Compass Electric Completes $950,000 Fire Alarm System Replacement Project at Dana-Farber’s Jimmy Fund Building

Compass Electric Construction, LLC of Carlisle, MA has recently completed the installation of a fire alarm system replacement at Dana-Farber’s Jimmy Fund Building. The design-build project, in which Compass installed a new Simplex addressable fire alarm system in the 11-story facility, was valued at $950,000. The NECA contractor provided both general contracting and electrical installation services for the project in the occupied Jimmy Fund Building, which houses patient care areas, research laboratories, an auditorium, and office space. The three node life safety system was wired with Circuit Integrity (CI) cable installed in EMT risers with the floors wired in fire alarm metal clad (MC) cable. Due to the critical requirement to keep the life safety systems and all other systems operational at all times, the project required close coordination between Compass Electric and Dana-Farber personnel. Compass, therefore, provided its services on a flexible work schedule, with its crew working both day and night shifts, as needed. Compass Electric’s field crew of six electricians from IBEW Local 103 was supervised by Company principal and project manager David St. Onge. The project commenced in September 2007 and was completed as scheduled on June 1, 2008.
