North Easton, MA Acella Construction Corp. has completed a 29,000 s/f expansion project at My Brother’s Keeper at 534 Washington St.

The scope of the $4.5 million project included a new loading dock addition with four overhead coiling doors to replace an existing loading dock that no longer met the needs of the organization’s expansion of operations.

The Acella team installed a second floor with new structural steel, adding nearly 15,000 s/f to the existing building. A new elevator, a vertical reciprocating conveyer, and 800-amp electrical service was installed, as was a new fire alarm system, five new rooftop Carrier HVAC units, and bathrooms and showers. In addition, Acella renovated an existing office space and expanded the kitchen and dining room areas.

Exterior work performed by Acella encompassed installation of a new parking lot and conservation management area.

Annino Inc. of North Attleboro served as project architect. Engineering firms of record were J.K. Holmgren Engineering of Brockton, Rivermoor Engineering of Scituate, and Zade Associates of Boston.

Acella team members Nick Costa and Phil Crear served as project manager and superintendent, respectively.

My Brother’s Keeper, a nonprofit organization, delivers more than 1 million pounds of food to families in need and provides aid to thousands of families all year long.

“The Acella team capably rose to the challenge of installing a second floor within an existing building to provide the necessary space for expanded operations at My Brother’s Keeper,” said Ryan LaVangie, vice president of sales and marketing for Acella Construction. “It gives us great satisfaction to complete this project knowing that the work we performed will assist this outstanding nonprofit in its worthy mission.”

My Brother’s Keeper celebrated the newly renovated facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house on November 24th.
