ARC wins two interior design awards from IIDA New England

ARC/Architectural Resources Cambridge won two awards at the annual awards event organized by the New England Chapter of International Interior Design Association (IIDA). ARC received the award for the best research/lab interior for Genzyme Corp.'s science center in Framingham, Mass., and an honorable mention in the education category for the a student services center at Johnson & Wales University in Providence. Previously, the Genzyme science center received the "Life Sciences Project of the Year" award from the New England Chapter of CoreNet Global, the world's leading professional association for corporate real estate and workplace executives. Located on Genzyme Corp.'s Framingham, Mass. campus, the science center, a 180,000 s/f laboratory and administrative building, also earned LEED Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council and is one of only a few laboratories in the nation to achieve this high rating. The ARC-designed 30,000 s/f student services center at the Downcity campus of Johnson & Wales University (JWU), also recently won the "Rehabilitation Award" from the Providence Preservation Society. Located at 274 Pine St. and known to many as the former Rolo Building, this two-story structure was originally built in 1921 and is a remnant of Providence's history as a center of jewelry manufacturing. JWU commissioned ARC/Architectural Resources Cambridge to design an adaptive reuse that respected the building's historic architectural integrity while integrating modern amenities and institutional requirements.
