Boston, MA The Design, Operation, and Maintenance of Building Systems, Part II starts on September 5th and will occur every Tuesday and Thursday until October 5th. Taught by David Thompson, Jamestown, LP, virtually, this course is for property and facilities managers who need to make management decisions about various building systems and sites. Your decisions will increase occupant safety and comfort while facilitating building efficiency to meet the business goals of an organization. Critical topics in this course include electrical systems and lighting, elevator maintenance and modernization, pest and solid waste management, security issues, fire and life safety systems, and energy management concerns. The topics covered will help you analyze and manage your building systems.

BOMA Boston’s Preparedness Committee is hosting the September Roundtable on September 21st. Our panelists will offer insight on how to prepare your buildings for flooding, heat, hurricanes, winter and other disasters. BOMA is hosting a Tech Seminar on Code Updates & Lab Construction on September 27th at 100 High St., Boston. A morning of collaboration with the Boston Fire Department. What building operators need to understand about the Boston Fire Department permitting process and how capital improvement and tenant construction projects should be planned to mitigate risk. Topics covered will include code updates, the latest with construction fire safety (NFPA 241), permit requirements and common means for rejection in existing buildings and lab permitting in the City of Boston. Join the 2023 Boston CRE Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Summit, presented by the CRE DEI Collaborative on September 28th. It is an opportunity to join industry professionals to share insights and strategies on how to meaningfully advance DE&I within commercial real estate.

The CRE DEI Collaborative first convened in 2019 to host the summit to foster collaboration, continuity, and impactful action on DEI initiatives in the commercial real estate industry. During this year’s summit, they will:

• Hear more about the CRE DEI Collaborative, spotlighted in a recent article in The Boston Globe.

• Gain insights from Scott Brown, executive vice president, Lincoln Property Group, Kevin Bynoe, CEO, UHM Properties, Jessica Hughes, managing director, Tishman Speyer, and Joe Ritchie, head of diversity, Tishman Speyer, who have effectively integrated DE&I within their organizations, moderated by Pratt Wiley, president and CEO, The Partnership, Inc.

• Participate in an engaging session led by Taidgh McClory, founder, THM Advisors, and Michelle Landers, executive director, ULI, focusing on the Urban Land Institute’s 10 Principles for Embedding Racial Equity in Real Estate Development, which will present a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on your company’s DEI initiatives.

Registration is now open for the Real Estate Investment and Finance Course with instructor Barry Familetto, Stetson Management & Development LLC. The course begins on October 16th and will conclude on November 15th. The course combines the latest industry practices with practical applications, including spreadsheet examples that showcase current calculation methods and provide multiple resources to address your investment and finance needs. New microlessons offer insights into the “Rule of 72,” owner objectives including calculations and analysis, and maximizing the success of real estate contracts through contract type selection, negotiation, terms, and conditions.
