The Boston office of Bovis Lend Lease has been awarded two Project of the Year awards by the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) New England chapter for their Macallen Building and Genzyme Science Building projects. Project nominations were judged based on the elements of cost, schedule, quality, and overall project management, which exemplify the CMAA Standards of Practice.
"We are extremely proud that the CMAA has recognized these two significant projects with Project of the Year awards," said Joseph Farrell, Bovis Lend Lease principal-in-charge for Boston.
Bovis Lend Lease provided pre-construction and construction management services for the award-winning Macallen Building, a 14-story, 354,000 s/f, condominium building located in South Boston. The Macallen Building is Boston's first LEED Certified residential property. The 139-unit Gold LEED certified building provides condominium units ranging from studio to three-bedroom layouts, with duplex and triplex options. Tenants also enjoy a private, half-acre terrace with pool and barbecues, gym, screening room, dog run, and 3-levels of below grade parking.
The property was designed by Office dA, with Burt Hill acting as architect of record.
In addition, Bovis Lend Lease provided pre-construction and construction management services for the award-winning Genzyme Science Building and Central Utility Building (CUB) located in Framingham. This project was comprised of two separate building initiatives, a 188,000 s/f science building and a 27,000 s/f CUB. The Science Building is spread over six floors and consists of laboratories, offices, conference rooms, and a kitchen and a dining area located on the top floor. The building houses approximately 400 employees, 300 of whom are scientists. The project has many noteworthy design aspects, including a zinc metal panel façade system, which makes the project the largest zinc metal project in the United States. Genzyme's dedication to designing and building environmentally responsible projects is reflected in the many "Green" principles and techniques used to design and build the new facilities. In seeking Gold LEED Certification, the project features several LEED applications. Architectural Resources Cambridge was the architect on this project.
Bovis Lend Lease, along with the Macallen and Genzyme architects and owners, were honored at an awards ceremony on April 16.
