Watertown, MA Bob Brustlin, PE, LEED AP, ENV SP, VHB co-founder and chairman of the board, was recently appointed to the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI) board of directors. His three-year term began on January 1, 2017. Founded by the American Public Works Association, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the American Council of Engineering Companies, ISI is comprised of a community of organizations and individuals involved in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure. The organization was created to develop and maintain Envision—a sustainability rating system for all civil infrastructure.

“Bob’s familiarity with, and strong commitment to ISI, as well as his valuable experience as a successful business leader, should greatly benefit the organization,” said Dave Raymond, ACEC president/CEO.

The Envision rating system provides valuable insights in order to achieve higher levels of sustainability at each step of the project process—from assessing costs and benefits over the project lifecycle to evaluating environmental benefits and using outcome-based objectives.

“Sustainability is at the core of who we are and what we do at VHB. Our support of ISI and Envision further enhances VHB’s efforts to incorporate sustainability into the delivery of services to our clients and into day-to-day operations,” said Brustlin. “I look forward to working towards advancing the mission of ISI as a member of the board.”

VHB became a charter member of ISI in 2012 and was at the forefront of Envision credentialing. Today, VHB has more than 114 Envision Sustainability Professionals and 13 Envision verifiers. Director of sustainability, Kari Hewitt serves on the Envision Review Board.

There are now thousands of ISI members, including individual practitioners, government agencies, companies, and other organizations who are actively using Envision to create and maintain more sustainable infrastructure.
