Somerville, MA btone FITNESS opened its 30th studio with a ribbon cutting attended by Somerville mayor Jake Wilson and Somerville Chamber of Commerce and East Somerville Main Sts.’ executives. Donation based classes to benefit the Somerville Homeless Coalition were offered and raised more than $1,500 to support the organization’s mission to help “find everyone a home” in the city of Somerville.

The new 2,300 s/f studio is the growing brand’s latest franchise to open. btone now has 30 franchises across the United States, with more on the way. The new studio joins several other greater Boston locations in the pipeline including those opening in Marshfield, Charlestown, and Brighton, and additional studios opening across the U.S. in New Hampshire, Florida, New York, Pennsylvania and North Carolina.

The new studio, located at 158 Bdwy. at the new Guild apartments, is owned and operated by Winchester residents and husband and wife team, Kara and William Bates, who said, “The btone workout is an approachable and customizable hybrid of Pilates-inspired movements and strength training, delivered in a 45-minute, joyful flow that’s ideally suited for all levels and ages, for every body, every day.”

According to btone FITNESS CEO and founder Jody Merrill, btone is committed to accelerating its national growth, breaking into new markets that align with its strategic vision for expansion. Said Merrill, “The company is on a fast track to have close to 45 opened studios by the end of 2026. In 2022, we grew from seven studios to ten. In 2023, from ten to 15, and by the end of 2024, we opened 22 studios in the US. Last year alone, seven new studios opened, marking a major milestone for btone and strategically laying the foundation for continued growth across the US.”

Referencing the Somerville market and the recent opening of btone’s 30th studio here, Merrill says, “Reaching our 30th studio milestone is not just a number — it’s a testament to the strength of our franchisees like Kara and Billy Bates, the loyalty of our members, and the power of the ever-growing btone FITNESS community. Every new studio that opens its doors is another opportunity to empower individuals to move better, feel better, and live better. Our steady growth beyond Boston and New England proves the demand for what we do — and we’re far from done. With more than a dozen more studios already in the pipeline, we’re focused on growing smart, supporting our owners, and bringing btone’s signature ‘slow movements, fast results’ approach to new markets across the country. We can’t wait to welcome even more communities into the btone family in the months and years ahead.”

She said, “This Somerville studio’s opening is an exciting one for the company and for me personally since it’s one of the first openings taking place in our 15th anniversary year. [btone FITNESS opened its first studio in Lexington, MA in 2010.] If you’re new to btone, our equipment and workouts are inspired by and evolved from traditional Pilates. We combine elements of Pilates with strength training and functional movement for maximum efficiency. This is the wildly efficient 45-minute workout that Somerville residents will love and appreciate.”
