Corderman & Co. complete buildout of The Alley Craft Food Hall

Boston, MA Corderman & Company completed the 6,500 s/f buildout of Craft Food Halls at One Post Office Sq., a 42-story Class A high-rise. This new hub, named The Alley, adds to Craft Food Halls’ other locations in Eastern MA including Allston-Brighton, Cambridge, Waltham, and Lexington.

The Corderman team was comprised of principal David Corderman, superintendent Ken Shea, project manager Jordan Koliss, assistant project managers Lisa Borelli and Tyler Corderman, Laborer Walter Acosta, director of field operations Dave MacNeil, as well as the firm’s in-house Corderman Carpentry and Trucking divisions.

As clientele arrive at The Alley, they are met with a foyer, moss wall, and a custom millwork feature, all of which contribute to a space intended to transition from corporate to casual. The food hall consists of eight different zones: The Yard, The Heartbeat, The Hideout, The Picnic Pod, The Art Lounge, The Arrival, The Food and Beer Hall, and The Bar. Each zone is infused with a distinct design scheme, providing integral mood shifts and setting changes that keep customers engaged and comfortable. Designed intentionally and built thoughtfully, the completed space reflects flexibility and choice, producing a layout that encourages movement, conversation, and connection. Extensive, modern tech and AV integrations - including a self-serve beer tap wall - enhance the space, further reinforcing the new-generation food hall concept.

With a job site adjacent to an active lobby; abutting The Langham, Boston; and directly below JLL’s offices and conference rooms, Corderman & Company not only had to construct a stunning new space, but the firm was also tasked with doing so as quietly and conscientiously as possible. It was imperative to both adhere to and exceed safety measures, implement noise and dust mitigation tactics, and maintain consistent communication with each party involved to minimize disturbances and properly address potential risks.

Familiarity with the One Post Office Sq. teams proved helpful in streamlining communications and safety. Corderman & Company also brought considerable experience at One Post Office Square, providing construction management services most recently for Canaccord Genuity, Beacon Bank (formerly Berkshire Bank), and a vital elevator buildout connecting the 41st and 42nd floors of the notable Boston building.

Ken Shea said, “It was a rewarding experience to partner with Vocon, AVID, LeMessurier, Acentech, and all of our trade partners to navigate our way through this project and deliver a high-quality, appealing space for many to enjoy. Hats off to the Corderman team and each of our trade partners for keeping it organized and getting all of the final documentation ahead of the turnover schedule.”

In addition to a buildout for the new digital food hall concept, Wonder, in Medford, MA earlier this year and the ongoing construction of The Marketplace at South Station Tower, The Alley by Craft Food Halls continues to build out an impressive resume of Corderman projects for restaurant and hospitality-based clientele.
