Cummings Center receives fifth Massachusetts ECO Award

For the fifth year in a row, Cummings Properties' Cummings Center campus received a Massachusetts Excellence in Commuter Options (ECO) Award in a ceremony held March 26 at Fenway Park in Boston. The event was hosted by Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), MassRIDES, MassCommute, and various Massachusetts Transportation Management Associations (TMAs), including North Shore TMA (NSTMA), of which Cummings Center is a member. Cummings Center was among several other Beverly and Salem NSTMA members that were recognized for their commitment to reduce traffic and improve air quality by offering incentives and programs that support the use of transit, carpools, vanpools, bicycling, walking, telework, or flextime. The municipalities of Salem and Beverly, as well as Cell Signaling Technology and Axcelis Technology of Beverly also received awards. "Cummings Properties is a proud member of NSTMA, which is a great resource for alternative transportation solutions for the more than 4,000 employees and visitors who travel to Cummings Center daily from all over the state and southern New Hampshire," said Cummings Properties account manager Joe Martin, who was at the Fenway Park event. The keynote speaker at Fenway was MassDOT secretary and CEO Stephanie Pollack who said, "The Massachusetts employers recognized today are helping the Commonwealth by encouraging more environmentally friendly commuting options that will enhance our communities by providing a healthier and cleaner environment." Cummings Center has received an ECO award each year since 2011, when MassCommute partnered with MassDOT to present the first annual Massachusetts ECO awards. It is accessible by MBTA bus and commuter rail, and the campus is pedestrian- and bike-friendly. The wide variety of on-site services, restaurants, and amenities, as well as ponds, a one-mile jogging trail, and picnic areas, reduce the need for employees to use their vehicles during the workday. "Cummings Properties is proud of its record as an ecofriendly business," said Cummings Center vice president and general manager Steve Drohosky. "The company has been an avid recycler and champion of solar energy, renewable products, and sustainable practices for years." According to Drohosky, plans are underway for condominiums on the Cummings Center campus, which will make the Center a true mixed-use development. "We hope to attract professionals who work at Cummings Center to also make the campus their home," said Drohosky, "which would decrease the need for travel and have a positive impact on the environment." Recently named one of North of Boston Business' 25 Best Places to Work, Cummings Center offers first-class, fully built out space for a wide range of commercial uses, including executive offices, healthcare facilities, laboratories, retail storefronts, industrial space, and more.
