Erland Construction and CBT Architects complete
ice rink renovation at The Fessenden School
West Newton, MA After completing three projects together, Erland Construction and CBT Architects were chosen by The Fessenden School to improve the school’s existing ice rink facility.
The scope of work focused on renovating the building’s interior to support the ongoing needs of Fessenden’s hockey and ice rink rental programs. Erland updated the rink to include new fire protection services, life safety systems, and ADA accommodations and completely revamped the public restrooms. Throughout the project, Erland worked closely with the school and Preferred Mechanical to coordinate construction around the concurrent upgrades to the rink’s ice surface.
“We value the partnership we’ve established with The Fessenden School in the time that we’ve worked together,” said Ben McConchie, academic group manager, Erland. “It was great to be back on campus and revamp these spaces before students return for the upcoming school year.”
The campus remained occupied throughout construction, with demolition taking place during the off hours to minimize disruption to the school’s operations, child care center, and summer camp activities.
The Fessenden School is an all-boys, independent day and boarding school serving more than 530 students in Pre-K through grade 9. For more than 100 years, Fessenden has been committed to the education of boys, and its facilities, curriculum, and programs are designed with the necessities of boys in mind.
