Holyoke, MA On October 30 G. Greene Construction and SMRT Architects broke ground on a 38,000 s/f emergency department and medical office building at Holyoke Medical Center (HMC).

The 22,000 s/f addition will double the size of the existing emergency department.  The footprint will allow for ample space for patient drop-off and a separate new ambulance drive which will improve the site access and traffic flow. This new building will connect to the main hospital at the 2nd floor of the memorial building. The new emergency department will house 40 treatment spaces including, 12 in the crisis center for psychiatric services, patient trauma rooms, and a central nurses’ station to allow staff visual access to the patients. The 2nd floor of the building will add 16,000 s/f and house new programs that will include a weight loss program, a sleep apnea clinic, and physicians’ offices.

With more than 100 people in attendance, the ceremonies were led by Holyoke Medical Center CEO Spiros Hatiras, mayor Alex Morse, local dignitaries, members of the board of directors, and HMC staff.

G. Greene Const. is serving as the construction manager. Construction will commence this month with a spring of 2017 completion.

Bob Greene said “We know how important this facility is not only to the town of Holyoke, but also Chicopee, South Hadley, Granby, Easthampton, Southampton, West Springfield, and Belchertown. Working in collaboration with the staff at Holyoke Medical Center and SMRT Architects will ensure a smooth process and a facility we will all be proud of.”
