IREM and CCIM honor Representative Jeff Miller as Legislator of the Year

The Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) and the CCIM Institute have jointly honored U.S. Congressman Jeff Miller (R-FL1) with their 2011 Legislator of the Year award. Sworn in as the United States representative for the First Congressional District of Florida in October 2001, and sent back to Washington for a sixth term in 2010, Miller was lauded for his strong support of the property management and commercial real estate industries. More specifically, Miller was cited for advocating the need for greater liquidity in the commercial real estate marketplace and for co-sponsoring the credit union lending bill. As well, he was praised for not supporting proposed legislation to increase the tax treatment of carried interest for real estate partnerships which, in IREM's and CCIM's view, would further hinder the flow of capital into real estate markets and significantly impede our economic recovery. Miller received his award recently during Capitol Hill Visit Day, an annual event during which IREM and CCIM members meet with senators and congressmen and their staffs to promote understanding and support for commercial real estate's legislative advocacies. More than 240 separate meetings were held during this year's event.
