JM Coull selected as design-builder for new 13,000 s/f Veteran Administration Clinic project

JM Coull (JMC) will be performing the design-build fit-up for the new 13,000 s/f Veterans Administration (VA) Clinic at Biotech Park on Plantation St. The property is owned by Worcester Campus Services Corp. and abuts and shares services with the UMass Medical School campus. The clinic will be sited at Biotech 4 that currently houses faculty offices and labs of the Meyers Primary Care Institute. The new clinic will offer audiology, podiatry, and optometry, among its other services. "We have a long-standing relationship with UMass and Worcester Campus Services Corp on a variety of projects and campus locations. We're excited, and honored, to be involved in building a new clinic that will serve veterans and their families," said Dan Cobb, project executive at JMC. Construction is expected to start in mid-May and be completed in October. JMC is teamed with TRO JB for the turn-key project. The scope includes all interior finishes and new MEP systems including HVAC upgrades and ductwork, electrical wiring and lights, emergency call system and security wiring, IT wiring, sprinkler, and plumbing. "JMC brings significant healthcare renovation and construction experience to the Biotech 4 project," Cobb said. The company has completed similar projects for Acton Medical Associates, Hallmark Health System, and Lowell Community Health Center. Cobb is one of five JMC team members to have recently earned Health Care Construction Certificates from the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) and the American Hospital Association. ASHE standards are common in many healthcare construction projects, particularly those in hospital settings, which are government-regulated facilities. ASHE certification demonstrates knowledge and understanding of best construction practices to protect patients from potentially life-threatening irritants and contaminants generated during active projects. This design-build project comes on the heels of a recently completed demolition on the site, also managed by JMC. Other Worcester Campus Services projects have included renovations at the Hoagland-Pincus Conference Center and Chang Building, both in Shrewsbury. JM Coull is a construction management, design-build and general contracting firm specializing in new construction and renovations for the healthcare, education, and corporate/industrial markets, including advanced technology, life sciences, manufacturing, and commercial/fit-up.
