Johnson of Cannon Design receives AIA College of Fellows Medal

Stephen Johnson, FAIA, a principal and leader of Cannon Design's local office, has been awarded the College of Fellows Medal by the American Institute of Architects.
Johnson received his Fellowship Medal at the Investiture Ceremony of the 2010 National AIA Convention in Miami. In being named a Fellow of the Institute, Johnson joins a distinguished group of professionals whose architectural accomplishments and dedication to the field are second to none. His body of work is recognized by its fresh design approach and connection to context.
As he received his medal, the Chair of the Jury of Fellows, Allen Kehrt, FAIA, said Johnson's "legacy of preserving and transforming American landmarks which celebrate community and culture... his creativity and global outreach are acclaimed with prestigious national and international awards." Johnson's work has in fact been honored with four national AIA Honor Awards for Design and two Honor Awards from the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
In accepting his fellowship, Johnson said, "Architecture connects the realms of community, discovery and creativity and it is especially thrilling now to work with young architects whose spirit of exploration and commitment engages today's issues and opportunities in fresh and exciting ways."
Johnson has developed projects in 10 countries and on over 40 campuses around the world. At Cannon Design, he serves on the steering committees of both the education and international practices and is currently working on projects in India, China, the United Arab Emirates and California, including the creation of several new campuses and research centers.
