Shelton, CT Adel Kamel, PE, has joined Tighe & Bond, Inc. as a principal coastal engineer in its land use and transportation business line.
Kamel has more than 23 years of international and domestic experience providing civil, marine structural, and coastal engineering services. He brings specialized expertise in coastal and marine engineering analysis and modelling, as well as berthing and mooring analysis – a cornerstone of Tighe & Bond’s waterfront services. Throughout his career, Kamel has designed coastal structures and elements to stabilize shorelines, such as rubble mound breakwaters, jetties, and revetments. In addition to design services, he has served as resident engineer on several major waterfront and marine projects.
“We are very excited about Adel joining our coastal engineering team. He is exceptionally strong in waterfront structural engineering and has a deep understanding of the uniquely harsh marine environment, including wave action, corrosion, ice, and forces from ships. The addition of Adel allows us to expand our staff of coastal engineers, so we can be more responsive to clients, with more boots on the ground in close proximity to our clients’ coastal assets,” said Fran Hoey, business line leader for land use and transportation.
Kamel will begin working on evaluations for the resiliency of coastal facilities across several client sectors. His work will play a pivotal role in a coastal resiliency project in New York for an oil storage terminal. In addition, Kamel will support Tighe & Bond’s engineering services for a unique project which will convert a former oil terminal into a multi-use town park. The pier will be restored, and resiliency measures will be added. Ultimately, the pier will be suitable for docking several historic vessels including the historic, 1,500 passenger steam ship, SS Columbia.
“I am very passionate about working in coastal and waterfront engineering and was attracted to Tighe & Bond’s ambitious plans to grow this business. I am very proud that the firm has given me this unique opportunity to contribute to their success,” said Kamel.
