Metro Walls completes 20,000 lbs. Greek Orthodox Church dome lift: project team includes Themeli Builders and Yervant Nahikian

Recently Metro Walls was hired by Themeli Builders to perform a large scope of work at St. Demetrio's Greek Orthodox Church. The project included light gauge steel framing, exterior sheathing, insulation, drywall and plaster. The architect for the project is Yervant Nahikian who has worked closely with the church to design a unique yet traditional place for the churches gatherings. In order for Metro to make Nahikian's design come to life, curved light gauge steel framing was used to build the main dome, which is a major focus of the design. On July 17 the domes structure was completed and raised to be placed 64 feet up in the center of the church. About 100 parishioners were present throughout the morning to witness the massive crane raise the 20,000 pound dome in the air and carefully place it in its position. The project will employee 20 Metro Walls employees and is expected to be complete in its entirety by November. Metro Walls sister company, Exterior Designs, was also hired on the project. Exterior Designs will be completing all of the EIFS cornice and other decorative shapes to help achieve the final look for the architect and church desire.
