New Mass. National Guard Armory breaks ground - Will be rated at LEED Silver

Lieutenant governor Timothy Murray joined major general L. Scott Rice, The Adjutant General of the Massachusetts National Guard, at the groundbreaking ceremony for a new Massachusetts National Guard Armory on December 7th.
This ceremony marks a significant event for the Massachusetts Army National Guard and the Division of Capitol Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM). A new 49,525 s/f facility is being constructed with federal and state funds. The Federal Government provided $9 million and State Government will provide $5 million.
The new facility will maximize green technologies, ergonomic design, and internal and external communication technologies to sustain the highest organizational effectiveness and efficiency. This facility will be rated at LEED Silver by the U.S. Green Building Council.
The armory was designed by Domenech Hicks & Krockmalnic Architects Inc., Boston and will be built by J & J Contractors Inc., Lowell. Construction is expected to be completed in 2014.
