Pro Con's Residence Inn by Marriott honored by city of Chelsea: $14 million hotel developed by XSS, LLC; Colwen named building manager

The Chelsea Residence Inn by Marriott hotel was named "Project of the Year" at the city of Chelsea's Annual Community Awards ceremony, which was held on October 22, 2012. The hotel was developed by XSS, LLC comprised of Leo Xarras, Christine Thomas, Mark Stebbins and Mark Schleicher. Pro Con Inc was the architect and construction manager for the design build hospitality project. Colwen Management manages the hotel. "We are honored to have the Residence Inn be recognized as the Project of the Year by the city of Chelsea," said Mark Stebbins of XSS. "It was a team effort to bring this project to fruition and the end result is a first class Marriott hotel that we can all be proud of and most importantly, that our guests enjoy. Since opening in August, the hotel has had many sold out nights and the hotel's three function rooms are in high demand, so we are very pleased." The 128-room, $14 million hotel is located along Rte. 1 and is visible from the highway. The Chelsea Residence Inn, which is located near Boston Logan Airport and less than 3 miles from downtown Boston, is close to major attractions, including the Boston Convention & Exposition Center, Faneuil Hall, Quincy Market and the Freedom Trail. The five-story, redbrick building replaced what was once a machine shop, a warehouse and a heavy truck repair yard. The hotel development team worked with the Chelsea economic development board, the city council and the zoning & planning boards to turn their vision of a first class hotel into a reality. The new hotel is positively impacting the municipal finances and has had a direct impact on the local residents and their families, as over 40% of the employees at the hotel are local hires. The Residence Inn also participated in an innovative transitional employment program with ROCA, the local youth development organization, providing meaningful work experience to at-risk youth. This is the 11th Annual Community Awards Ceremony that the city of Chelsea has sponsored.
